About

Other Gardens is an ensemble that combines contemporary classical music with own compositions, made on the spot. This allows them to explore form and play with new sounds, often in unexpected ways. The idea behind the name is that each composition should be like a garden, and that the audience should feel included in the experience.

“When working with this mix of composed and improvised music, we’ve found that it creates a very special presence. The immediateness of the improvised sections influence the performance of the composed pieces, the deep concentration and precision of the solo-pieces render structure to the improvisations.

From our experience, the audience is engaged in what we are doing from the first sound to the last, and leave the concert hall with the feeling of having lived through something unique.”

The trio has performed in Norderlicht in Berlin, Wundergrund in Copenhagen, Vendsyssel Festival, Nordischer Klang in Greifswald, was part of the celebration of Kaija Saaraihos reception of the Sonning Price, making live music for silent movies, making sound installations with designers…

The trio, and the duos within the trio, have commissioned and premiered chamber music as well as interpreting existing pieces by composers as Julianna Hodkinson, Niels Rosing Schow, Eblis Alvarez, Simon Christensen…

Ahead lies a collaboration with composers Steingrimur Rohloff and Hans-Henrik Nordstrøm, work that will be presented on the 2014 edition of Suså Festival. Other Gardens will release their first CD in the end of 2014.
